Welcome to Year 1’s Page. We have been working hard this year to produce some fantastic work. Take a look at what we have been doing below:
The class teacher in Year 1 is Miss Brown.
The teaching assistants that work within the Key Stage are Miss Hooley and Mrs Whalley and Mrs Cooper.
Autumn 1 Learning
During Autumn 1 we have been doing lots of place value practise in our Maths work. In English we have read the story of Dogger, practised using capital letters and full stops, and have written our very own Dogger story.
In Science we have looked at everyday materials. In our Topic learning we have studied the history of toys – we ended this by visiting Portland Basin museum and taking part in a fun workshop where we got to play with lots of old toys and find out what it was like to be a Victorian school child.
Autumn 2 Learning
We have been learning how to solve addition and subtraction problems and exploring shapes. We have been thinking about how we can make our sentences better by using adjectives and adverbs of time. For our Topic learning have been learning about our local area.
Spring 1 Learning
This half-term we have been looking at the book “Lost and Found” by Oliver Jefferson- We have produced a re-count of the story and also a set of instructions of how to make a sandwich. We have been looking at 2-D and 3-D shapes in Mathematics and we have moved onto place value within 20 and we will be carrying this on next half-term in Spring 2. The children have really been enjoying the Topic of “Animals- including Humans”.
Next half term- in English we will be looking at Writing letters and recounting events. In Mathematics we will be looking at place value within 20 as we did in the last half-term. We are carrying on with our topic “Animals- including Humans” and from this we will be going on a trip to Smithills Farm, Bolton in March to fit in with topic.
Homework will be given out at the beginning of the half term. The homework will give current maths number facts targets to learn, as well as the terms spellings which are tested weekly. In addition, the children can choose from a range of English, Maths and Topic activities directly related to their class learning. All home work should be handed in during the last week of the half term when it will be celebrated
Reading books and records will go home every day. Please bring them back into school every day, so they can be listened to by an adult. It is important that the children read as much as possible (with an adult) at home, in order to maximise their potential. Please comment in their reading record whenever you read with them. Books will be changed once a week (no set day).
All children will be provided with a free piece of fruit at snack time. If you would prefer to have an extra snack provided for your child by the school, there is a cost of 20p per day (£1 per week). Please pay this to Mrs Whalley on the door on Monday mornings.
Please provide your child with a labelled water bottle. These can only be filled with water (not juice!).
We have P.E. on Tuesdays and Fridays. Children will need a plain white t-shirt, black shorts and black pumps in a bag.
Please ensure these are all clearly named.
We use Dojo points in school to reward positive behavior. You can see the points your child has been awarded. Please sign up and stay in touch.
These are the topics for Spring 2
In Writing we will be working on writing sentences, with capital letters, word spaces and full stops/ Writing letters.
In Reading we will be looking at the meanings of words.
In Phonics, we will be continuing to build on our knowledge of Phase 3 sounds, and beginning to work on Phase 4. Some children will be beginning to learn Phase 5.
In Maths our focus is the understanding of number, place value within 20 and addition. We will be using a range of practical resources in order to ensure the children can create numbers in a variety of ways.
