Welcome to Year 5!

Welcome back! I hope that you have all had an enjoyable and restful summer holiday and are ready for a new school year and our new term.

The teacher in Year 5 is Miss Davies. The teaching assistant is Mrs Moorfield.

Homework will be given out on Thursdays and will need to be returned by the following Wednesday. Homework will more often than not be mental maths, spellings and topic work. If your child needs any help please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Moorfield or myself. Children will be tested on spellings and times tables weekly.

New spellings will be sent home on Fridays and will be tested every Thursday.

Reading Books

Reading books and a reading journal have been given to your child. Please encourage them to read these on a daily basis. It is important that children read as much as possible at home to maximise their potential. Please comment in their reading journal whenever you have read with them.

Snack/ Water

If you would like to provide your child with a healthy snack, they can keep this in their bag. If you would prefer to have an extra snack provided for your child by the school, there is a cost of 20p per day. The children are responsible for looking after this money, and buying the snack at play time.

Please provide your child with a labelled water bottle. These can only be filled with water (not juice!).

PE will be on Wednesday afternoons and Thursday afternoons. Children will need a white top, with black shorts and trainers or pumps. As the weather is very changeable lately it is advised to have a pair of long pants and a jacket available. The subject that we will be doing in PE is Tag Rugby.

Our class novel is Kensuke’s Kingdom written by Michael Morpurgo. In reading we will be having a big push on ‘reading for pleasure’ at home and during school as well as focusing on retrieving information from our class novel.

Our History Topic for this term is Ancient Mayans.

For the start of the term, we will be recapping E-Safety and learning to use different apps that will make our lessons more interactive.
