Welcome to Year 3!

I hope you enjoyed your summer holidays.  The children have returned with a good attitude and are ready to learn.  This page aims to give you some information about what we will be learning this half term and how you can help your child at home.

The teacher in Year 3 is Miss Barnett. The teaching assistant is Mrs Cooper.

Homework books will go home every Thursday and should be returned to school by Tuesday. This will include some spellings and math’s facts to learn for a test the following Friday.

Reading Books

As well as weekly homework, your child has a reading book which you should aim to read every night for 5-10 minutes.  Please make a note of any reading you do in your reading record.  Please do not feel you have to read an entire book every night.  We will change the children’s books once a week if they know them and can read them fluently.

Snack/ Water

If you would like to provide your child with a healthy snack, they can keep this in their tray or book bag. If you would prefer to have an extra snack provided for your child by the school, there is a cost of 20p per day. The children are responsible for looking after this money, and buying the snack at play time.

Please provide your child with a labelled water bottle. These can only be filled with water (not juice!).

Year 3 will do PE in school on Friday afternoon.  They will need a full PE kit in school. This must include black shorts, a white t-shirt and a pair of black PE pumps.  All clothing must be named.

This term the children in Year 3 go swimming.  This will be on Tuesday afternoons and will begin on 12th September.  You have received a letter for you to sign to give permission for your child to go swimming. Children need a swimming costume and a towel. The swimming baths state that boys are not allowed to wear swimming shorts and must have swimming trunks and goggles are not permitted.  They need to bring their kit in a waterproof bag clearly labelled with their name.  All long hair must be tied back – children may wear a swimming hat if they wish.  Children are not permitted to wear any jewellery in the swimming pool.  Earrings must be removed.

This half term our History topic is The Stone Age.  This topic will cover history objectives, learning about how people lived during The Stone Age and into the Bronze Age.  We will be thinking about how people went about their daily lives and compare them to how we live today.

Our Science topic for the half term is Rocks and Soils.  In this topic the children will learn about different types of rocks.  They will discover how rocks are formed and how this affects their properties.
